holiday mode – OFF. real life mode – ON.

and so we’re back.

its cold. we’re still living out of bags. i am back at work. jim is looking for work. and south america feels like a million miles away.

and i LOVE IT!

we found the perfect flat last week -  exactly what we were looking for and well within budget. the movers are booked and from saturday onwards we will, once again, have OUR OWN SPACE . no more living out of bags. no more sleeping on floors. no more moving on. we are staying put.

and we have outdoor space! we can have bbq’s. i can grow things. we can eat our dinner outside during the summer.

its all very exciting.  it also means i can now focus solely on the biggest ‘to do’ list i have ever had to work with…

wedding ‘to do’

pay final balance on the registry office (£500 total – its not bloody cheap is it?!)

apply for notice of marriage (appointment needed so they can confirm we are doing this for love and no other reason)

finalise guest list (we have a rough number, its really bloody high – gah!)

find wedding dress (apparently if i want a new one i have to order it by april 30th. vintage it is then!)

decide what we’re going to do about food (we love the idea of asking friends to bring a dish but not sure how practical this is for upwards of 70 guests…)

hair and makeup – shall i do my own? (i could do my own makeup easily, hair is a different story…)

decide how to ‘tart up’ the boozer where we’re having the reception (love the ‘diy’ approach of this wedding)

choose my flowers (this is easy as i already know which flowers i want and my best mate used to be a florist – yay!)

buy our wedding rings (i have already seen one i love by laura lee. its got diamonds. i cant afford it)

figure out how to get to registry office on day of wedding (black cab? they also do white ones – that would be nice)

book train tickets and hotel for gran and grandad (both of whom hate london – its ‘too busy’ apparently)

ermmmm – have i forgotten anything???

i’ve never done this before.

  1. I like your to do list and your happy post! The idea of everyone bringing a dish to your wedding feast is an excellent one. You’ll need to either ask people specifically what they plan to bring and how much of it or suggest what and how much to everyone, perhaps draw up a wish list of dishes and get people to chose what they’d like to bring? You could have it on the side bar of your blog and strike through each dish as it’s spoken for. That dog is adorable and I thought you were going to say you’d become dog owners already!

  6. Dj’s won’t be a problem eh?! My friends Dan & Jane Carey got me to make or should I say assemble a wedding cake with plastic bride and groom on top and white pillars in between wheels of their favourite cheeses. That was their wedding cake, no other. They LOVE cheese like you. I remember the top smallest one was a beautiful white goats cheese rolled in ash.
